From PG to Practice

Start your career with the business knowledge medical college did not teach.

The first job, the first agreement, the first pay structure and the first profile online all arrive in the same few weeks. Clinically you are ready for the work itself. This is one afternoon on the commercial side of starting out.. what the numbers in an offer are made of, what to ask before you sign, and how to begin building a name of your own.

At your Hospital or college, or online

Leaves holding a printed card

The business chapters that come after the degree.

The same shape as every other training here, run for a batch instead of a team.

Who it is for.
Outgoing PGs, Fellows and senior residents, and new Consultants on the way in.

Who books it.
The institution, or the Doctor. Teaching Hospitals, colleges, associations, Fellowship programmes and CME committees book it for a batch. A Doctor who is finishing training can take a seat on the next open cohort.

How it is framed.
Business orientation, delivered by a business advisor. Said plainly in the first five minutes.

Why it holds a room.
A real contract goes on the screen early and the phones go down.

What this actually gives you.

No price on this page. Fees depend on the format and the size of the batch.

Talk About Your Batch
2 x 3 hrs
Sessions, at your institution or online
3 reviews
Ninety minutes each, online
Yours to keep
A printed card for every attendee

Real offer letters worked on in small groups, with no names read aloud

Your institution's name printed alongside ours on the card

A written note to the academic office after each review

A certificate for everyone who completes it

A shorter single session can also be run as a slot inside a CME or a conference programme. Travel is quoted separately at actuals.

Stop at the one you are worried about.

Your outgoing batch has nowhere to take a question about an offer except a group chat.

An agreement gets signed before anybody in the batch has read one end to end.

A number is accepted without anybody asking what the number is made of.

Original certificates are handed over because it seemed normal.

Two months in, they are building a profile online with no view on what is worth publishing.

Somebody drifts into a route for the next ten years rather than choosing it.

What is different afterwards.

For the batch, and for the institution that trained them.

  • They read the contract before they sign it

Not once in a corridor, but properly, knowing which parts are standard, which are negotiable and which are worth a question. The paper stops being a formality.

  • They know what the pay is actually made of

A single figure at the top of an offer letter can be several very different arrangements underneath. They can tell them apart before they say yes.

  • They know what they may publish about themselves

The line is explained before they start copying what they have seen, so what they publish is theirs and it is right from the first month.

  • They choose a route instead of drifting into one

Private, Government, or their own place. Each one pays differently, costs differently and closes different doors. The choice gets made deliberately.

  • Your academic record carries a real non clinical session

Something documented, delivered and useful, rather than a slot filled. It also sets expectations with the residents you would like to keep.

  • Your name travels with them

They will talk about where they trained for the next twenty years. This is one of the few sessions they will remember that had little to do with a ward.

What this training is measured against.

The contract read properly Bond understood Notice period understood What the pay is made of Original certificates Restrictive clauses Professional indemnity Leave and benefits What you may publish Private, Government or your own First Clinic economics Questions worth asking an employer

Two sessions, then three reviews.

What is different afterwards, stage by stage.

After session one

Nobody in the batch signs anything blind

  • They can read an offer letter line by line and know what they are looking at
  • They know which parts are standard and which are worth a question
  • They know what the money is actually made of
  • They know when a document belongs with a lawyer
After session two

They know the line, and they know the road

  • They know what a Doctor may and may not publish about themselves
  • They stop copying what they see other Doctors doing online
  • Private, Government or their own place, chosen rather than drifted into
  • They have a number on paper for what opening a place would take
After the three reviews

It holds once they are actually working

  • The reviews happen after they have started, so the questions are real ones
  • Their own contract, looked at again with a few months of experience behind it
  • What they have published so far, checked against the line
  • A written note to the academic office after each one

At your Hospital or college, or online. On real contracts, with no names read aloud.

Who books it.

Anywhere Doctors finish training and move on.

Teaching Hospitals. Any Hospital with DNB, MD, MS or Fellowship seats, for the outgoing batch.

Medical Colleges. A department, an academic office or a Dean adding something practical to a final year or exit programme.

Associations and societies. National, state chapter, and junior or young member wings.

Fellowship programmes. A cohort finishing together and facing the same first contract in the same month.

CME and conference committees. As a shorter session inside the scientific programme.

Hospital groups. As induction for new Consultants, not only as an exit session.

Alumni bodies, resident forums and academic wings book it too. If Doctors under your roof are about to sign a first contract, it fits.

For the batch

Booked by the institution

Two sessions of three hours, then three reviews of ninety minutes, run for your outgoing batch at the Hospital or college, or online.

For one Doctor

A seat you take yourself

If your Hospital is not going to run it, you do not have to wait for them. Ask for a seat on the next open batch, live online, and take it in your own name.

Ask For A Seat

What you can count.

How many of the batch had their own contract looked at before signing.

How many can name what their pay is actually made of.

How many know what they may publish about themselves.

How many chose their route deliberately rather than taking the first offer.

"They will learn all this on the job."

They will, and it usually costs them the first two years. The agreement gets signed before it gets understood. The number is accepted and only questioned at the next job. The profile online gets built by copying somebody else. That is not a failure of intelligence, and it is not anybody's fault.. a medical degree has a great deal to fit in already. One afternoon at the start is a very cheap head start.

How it starts for you.

1

Talk
Your batch, the size, and when they finish.

2

Look
Where they usually go next, and what they usually sign.

3

Scope
The sessions, the reviews, the terms.

4

Work
At your institution or online.

Fees depend on the format and the size of the batch, so they are discussed directly rather than published. Travel is quoted separately at actuals. Nothing is committed before the second conversation.

Run by someone who has sat in all three chairs.

The employer's chair. Three years as Chief Business Officer of a super-speciality eye Hospital, hiring Consultants and working on the contracts they signed.

The organiser's chair. Co-produced a three day CME attended by more than 1200 eye surgeons from 25 countries.

The stage. Thirty years in front of an audience and a camera. Radio, live shows, television, master of ceremonies.

The honest fence. A business advisor rather than a lawyer or a Registered Medical Practitioner, said out loud at the start.

Common questions

What should a Doctor check in a first job contract in India?

Whether the role is employment or a consultancy arrangement, what the pay is actually made of, the service commitment, the notice period, what happens to original certificates, anything that limits where you may practise afterwards, professional indemnity, and the leave and benefit position. The training teaches you what each of these means commercially and what to ask about it.

Who books this training?

Teaching Hospitals running DNB, MD, MS or Fellowship seats. Medical Colleges putting something practical into a final year or exit programme. Associations and societies, including their junior and young member wings. Fellowship programmes whose cohort finishes together. CME and conference committees. And Hospital groups that run it as induction for new Consultants. A Doctor who is finishing training can also take a seat on their own, on an open batch, without waiting for an institution to book it.

How is it delivered?

The same shape as every other training here. Two sessions of three hours each, at your Hospital or college or online, then three reviews of ninety minutes each, online, after the batch has started work. A shorter single session can be run as a slot inside a CME or a conference programme.

What is this, exactly?

It is business orientation, and nothing more. Mehirr is a business advisor, not a Doctor and not a lawyer, and he says so in the first five minutes. Attendees are always told which questions belong with a professional adviser and which belong with their employer.

Can we brand the take home card?

Yes. Your institution's name is printed alongside ours on the card every attendee keeps.

Do you travel outside Bangalore?

Yes, across India. Travel is quoted separately at actuals rather than folded into the fee.

What does it cost?

It depends on the format and the size of the batch. Ask on WhatsApp and you will get the number and the details the same day.

I am a Doctor already in practice. Is there something for me?

Yes. See Build Your Brand, Doctor, built for Doctors already working.
